About Our School

About our school
Patagonia Montessori Schools believe education is a drawing-forth of a child's innate being. In a structured and nurturing environment, the school provides tools for successful living and learning: respect, responsibility, confidence, discovery and joy.

Patagonia Montessori Schools are located on a beautiful 38-acre campus with rolling hills, irrigated fields, and Sonoita Creek.  Sponsorships are available for preschool children who qualify. Families may choose a Montessori education for their children at no cost to the family.

Academics

The Montessori classroom is rich in materials that enable a child, quite early, to develop a sense of :

  • Math (numeral recognition and progression)
  • Language (letter recognition and the development of fine motor skills for writing)
  • Geography (physical and cultural)
  • Science (beginning botany and zoology)
  • Music (percussion, rhythm, and voice)
  • Art (painting, drawing)

Practical Life

Practical Life is the foundation of the Montessori curriculum.  In this area, children practice and experiment, using materials from everyday “practical” life.  Your child will master:

  • Responsibility for self  (buttoning, zipping)

  • Care of environment (sweeping, polishing)

  • Social relations (cooperating, manners)

  • Movement (balancing, stretching)

Sensorial

Sensorial materials help your child develop a capacity for observation and an understanding of relationships and sequences. In this area are puzzles, pattern activities, plane and solid geometric shapes, and various tools that help your child to:

  • Learn colors and shapes

  • Understanding size and dimensions

  • Identifying tastes and smells
